Individual psychotherapy

The goal of long-term and short-term psychotherapy/counseling is to assist in the development of personal effectiveness, self-understanding and problem-solving abilities. Counseling works to alleviate distress, enhance wellness and facilitate the achievement of individual success. The purpose of psychotherapy is to increase self-awareness, resolve emotional issues, and to help you feel better about yourself.

Dr. Gozlan is a clinical psychologist and a psychoanalyst. As a psychoanalyst, he attends to patterns of experiencing the world, which stubbornly persist and may lead to difficulties with feelings, present functioning and relationships. Psychotherapy, or psychoanalysis, if it is indicated, is a process which can open up our ways of experiencing the world and allow for new and more enriching modes of living.

His approach to treatment is aimed at helping patients free themselves from the constraints of patterns and habits that are outside of their conscious awareness to allow for creative paths and choices that are not constrained by past experiences.

Psychoanalysis is a form of treatment that is more in-depth and designed to enhance and deepen your self-awareness. As a more in-depth form of psychotherapy more frequent meetings are required (up to three or four sessions weekly).

Couples Counselling and Therapy Services

Over the course of a relationship, most couples encounter difficulties. Often these difficulties are mild and easy to address. Sometimes these difficulties are more deep-rooted and tend to recur. Couples therapy can provide a safe place to address these issues within an open and non-judgemental environment. Our therapists help couples to resolve conflict and build a more positive and respectful relationship.

Together with your therapist, you and your partner will work to establish both individual and joint goals for the relationship. You will address areas of concern with your therapist facilitating discussion around difficult issues.

Our experienced clinicians can help you and your partner:

  • Improve relationships
  • Improve intimacy
  • Strengthen communication
  • Resolve conflict
  • Resolve sexual problems
  • Develop problem-solving strategies

Family Counselling and Therapy Services

All families encounter a variety of stressors as its members grow and develop. At times, these growing pains may become more serious and you may want to consult a professional.

Family therapy is based upon the belief that the behaviour of the individual is influenced and maintained by interactions with other important figures in their lives. Effective family therapy can result in deep and lasting changes for individual members as well as for the entire family unit.

Family therapy is intended to identify conflicts and set specific goals for resolving them. Therapy usually explores family roles, rules, goals, and stages of development in order to target issues that may contribute to conflict and stress. It may address the family's behavioural patterns, their ability to solve problems, and their ability to express emotions and communicate with one another. Therapy addresses family strengths as well as weaknesses.

Families can benefit from working together with one of our experienced clinicians to:

  • Enhance relationships
  • Improve communication
  • Resolve conflicts
  • Develop and enhance parenting skills
  • Increase understanding among family members
